Naughara Gali: A mesmerizing alley in Chandni Chowk

Hey Love,

I hope you are doing well. In my last post, I told you about my visit to Ghalib Ki Haveli, today, I will tell you about another offbeat place in Chandni Chowk, and this place is Naughara Gali. Let’s get started.

Place: Naughara Gali

Address: Gali Mata Wali, Kinari Bazar, Katra Shah N Shah, Chandni Chowk, Delhi, 110006

How to reach: The nearest metro station is Chandni Chowk. Take an exit from Gate number 1 and walk towards the famous Paranthe Wali Gali, from there ask someone about Kinari Bazar or Naughara Gali. This alley is easy to miss, so keep your eyes open once you reach Kinari Bazar.

Entry ticket: Free

Visiting Hours: 24 hours, but it would be nice if you won’t go there late at night, some people reside in these houses. 😛

Naughara means nine (nau) houses (ghar). This alluring alley in Chandni Chowk has nine houses. These houses have retained their almost primordial forms since Chandni Chowk was adorned with charming architectural Havelis. The doors of these houses are so flamboyant and picturesque that you will be mesmerized. At the end of this alley, there is a Jain Svetambar temple. Amid radiant and vivid doors, this temple made with white marbles looks divine.

As we went there on Sunday, I was stunned to see a quiet place in Chandni Chowk. In the mayhem of Chandni Chowk, there is this secluded alley. The intricate and decorated doors will compel you to click many photographs.

This alley is part of many heritage walks in Chandni Chowk. As it is not so famous I got a chance to sit down there and had a chit-chat with my friend, and this is unbelievable. Having a chit-chat in Chandni Chowk, I am sure you don’t hear about it often.

Looking at the alley, and these exquisite houses, I could not stop myself from wondering what lies behind them, ponder about the people who live there and about the people who have lived here in past. One can only imagine the history these doors must have witnessed. People belonging to different periods, walking by them, listening to and watching stories passing by, and now getting photographed by people. I am sure these doors which we consider as a part of history, must know a lot of history.

This alley is near Paranathe wale Gali, so we also ate paranthas, and I find this place overrated. I didn’t like the paranthe here. But there is a Kulfi wala in Paranthe wali Gali, and his kulfi is delectable. I will go to paranthe wali gali again, but not for the paranthas but the kulfi. If you are in Chandni Chowk, his kulfi is must to have.

Overall, if I have to tell you which place I loved the most during this visit, without any doubt I would say Naughara Gali. This alley is stunning, historical, calm and fascinating.
