Plot: At midnight Orient Express was stopped on the track because of a snowdrift. But something was wrong on the train. There lies a dead body of one of the passengers in his compartment. His compartment locked from inside, and the murderer still on the train.
It was the murderer’s misfortune that the famous detective Hercule Poirot was also there on the train. Stuck in the snowdrift, the detective has no other choice but find out the murderer before the murderer decides to strike again.
My Views: This is my second Agatha Christie book, the first being ‘And then there were none’ (read my book review here) and also, my first Hercule Poirot book. Like my last Agatha Christie book, this book is also entertaining. I enjoyed reading the book, and what I love the most about the author is that she can keep the readers engaged in the book. It is a page-turner, it was so difficult to keep it back. On every page, there was suspense and the suspense was killing me, I could not wait to finish it.
As we all love to guess the murderer, I guessed it too, and like the last book, I failed here again. I must say that Agatha Christie was very talented, she had the talent to keep us all guessing and then finding ourselves wrong.
The idea of the book was very distinct, unlike all other thriller and mystery books I have read in the past.
Coming to the language of the book, this book was first published in 1934, and at that time the language in which the books were written was a little bit hard. To all those who are used to of reading old books, this is not going to be a problem. But for the beginners, it can be strenuous.
But I think that those who love thriller and mystery books, should read Agatha Christie, and common there is always a starting point, so you can go for this book. You might find it demanding in the beginning but you will get used to it. Moreover, the mystery won’t let you keep the book unfinished.
Overall, I would say it is a good book, though I was crestfallen in the end. But I would still say that reading it was like a roller coaster ride, full of anticipation.
Recommendations: All those who love reading thriller and mystery books, how can you even think about skipping an Agatha Christie book? This is always listed in one of her best books, so go for it.
